Zyban SR is a prescription medicine used for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD). Zyban SR is only indicated for short-term treatment (up to 6 weeks) rather than for long-term treatment. Zyban SR is not addictive and is not intended to cure any underlying medical conditions. If you are suffering from depression, your doctor may recommend an antidepressant such as phenytoin or a mood stabilizer such as nortriptyline. The medication is not indicated in the management of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), panic disorder (PD), social anxiety disorder (SAD), generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), panic disorder with agoraphobia (PDW), or social phobia (SPS).
Zyban SR is intended for adult patients with MDD who are not suitable candidates for weight loss. Zyban SR should only be used under specialised care by adult patients who are unable to lose weight, cannot tolerate fluctuations in body mass index (BMI), or have other significant medical conditions that affect their physical or mental health. In patients with diabetes, uncontrolled high blood pressure or heart disease, or any other condition which affects the heart rhythm, Zyban SR should be used with careful consideration in combination with a reduced-calorie diet and exercise.
